Weekly Scoop of Imurj – May 15

Last Week at Imurj

This past week at Imurj, we had a lot of great music events for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a rundown of what you missed!

Wednesday Open Mic

This past Wednesday night, 36 musicians signed up to play, and there were 8 new artists who came out and performed! Of those eight, Noah, 11 years old, is the youngest performer Imurj has ever had. He blew the crowd away with his confidence, big smile, and rap capabilities. Another guest, Adam, drove all the way from Goldsboro to perform for his first time. Drummers and guitarists met for the first time on the stage, and magic happened. Friendships were formed around music, over a sandwich and drink. Youngsters are welcome to accompany their parents to this event where all are welcome.

Wave Check

Ray Lansing, G’sus, RollUpNow, and Dustin Buck

Aleksi Productions performing at Wave Check

Aleksi Productions, RollUpNow and G’sus got the party going at Wave Check, a hip-hop open mic. Hosted by Ray Lansing, this pop-up event also served as the unofficial Earth, Wind & Fire pre-party for people waiting for Red Hat Amphitheatre to open. After going through the signup list, the stage turned into an open jam. Ray Lansing held it down on drums while Dustin Buck freestyled on guitar. Twiwan Joyner, G’sus, and RollUpNow alternated on stage in the name of collaboration. All-in-all, the specialty hip-hop open mic was a successful and fun way for musicians to showcase their talents in a genre-specific atmosphere.

Earth, Wind & Fire After-party

Jonathan Edwards, Roger Babson, Adam Mobarek, David Westbrook, Phil Palmer

A genre-defying local Raleigh rock band, The Big Strong Arms, played a free show at Imurj Friday night as the after-party for Earth, Wind & Fire concert at Red Hat. A great way to avoid post-concert traffic and keep the party going, people streamed into Imurj to listen to more live music. Mixing classic rock with funky saxophone and trumpet, The Big Strong Arms kept the jam going with their jazz-rock combo.
