Imurj Artist Member Spotlight Series

Imurj presents another Local Artist Spotlight featuring artist members SWIMDOWN, Remedy Kincaid, and Cody Daniel. Kicking off the Thursday night show, SWIMDOWN’s Dan Sibrian hit the stage with a high-energy emo sound. Self-described as “if Blink-182 and Moose blood had a baby (with a little bit of Modern Baseball mixed in),” SWIMDOWN can capture the crowd with their original songs like “Carolina” and  “Poems.” Dan Sibrian, lead vocals and guitarist of the band, writes their songs because he’s “a poet, [he’s] been heartbroken so many times (which is SO pop-punk).” Being able to play at Imurj allows the band to have more of an intimate connection with their audience, while embracing the importance of a strong community within the music world. Inspired by artists like The 1975, Underoath, and the Band Camino, SWIMDOWN likes to “write pop punk songs about girls who are out of [their] league.” Their new EP was just released on Oct. 5th, and you can catch them on social media @Swimdownnc!

Hitting the stage next, Remedy Kincaid is a familiar face around Imurj as he has become a regular at our Open Mic and Open Jam events. Remedy’s sound is an organic blend of neo-soul, jazz, blues, reggae, hip-hop, and alternative. With inspirations ranging from Jimi Hendrix to Lupe Fiasco, Remedy wants to be sure his audience “doesn’t put [him] in a box,” and he hopes to inspire others to “be free.” Imurj is the perfect place for Remedy, since he loves to collaborate with other artist members to expand his music. He says “the diversity is dope, it’s really amazing,” and you can see his passion for creating as he works hard to always learn something new. You can keep with with Remedy on Youtube, Twitter, and Reverbnation, @Remedy919.

Headlining the show, Cody Daniel brought his “smooth soulful pop energy with hip-hop undertones.” Performing beside Cody, Kah Yotti brings the hip-hop elements to the sound, and you can hear inspirations of Eminem and Lupe Fiasco in his original songs like “Timeless.” Inspired by musicians like John Mayer and Justin Timberlake, Cody’s music “makes you wanna dance and fall in love.” With original songs like “Timeless” and “The Night,” the audience can hear Cody’s pop songwriting abilities shine. Loving the vibe of Imurj, Cody enjoys the warm feeling of the small venue that has “brought the local scene back.” Music means more to these guys than just making people want to dance though, they want to create an experience that allows people to escape for a couple hours. Along with playing at local venues whenever he gets the chance, Cody won a Carolina music award for Best R&B video two years ago, and was nominated for Best R&B Male Carolina music award last year. You can keep up with him on his website cody-daniel.com, or follow him on social media @codydanielmusic!
